Frequently asked questions
Psychotherapy can be an incredibly effective tool for gaining self-awareness and clarity. It offers a safe and confidential space to delve into your inner self and find the peace you seek.
Below answers some frequently asked questions about starting therapy and what it may entail.
How does Psychotherapy work?
If you are struggling with challenges or difficult emotions, psychotherapy can be a helpful resource. It offers a secure and non-judgmental environment to explore these issues and gain new perspectives. By connecting with a therapist, you can increase your self-awareness and work towards overcoming obstacles and managing life transitions. This can be through validation of being heard, therapeutic interventions and more.
How long are sessions?
They are 60-minutes long
Fees & payments
My fee is £70 for a 60 minute session and payments are made in advance. I accept payment by BACS transfer.
I do have a limited amount of slots at a concessionary rate, please don't hesitate to ask about this.
Can you diagnose PMDD?
No,I am not medically trained to do this but I am able to support cycle tracking and exploring your experience of PMDD.
Where do sessions take place?
They can be online, over the phone or face-to-face. I can also offer a mix of these to suit your lifestyle.
Do you offer an introductory session?
Yes. I offer a free of charge, no-strings introduction. This can be phone or video call for up-to 15 minutes, this will provide you with the opportunity to ask any questions and get a feel for the way I work before making a choice.
I also offer a more in-depth 30 minute introduction for £35 if you feel you would prefer more time.
How do you support PMDD within Psychotherapy?
The way I utilise psychotherapy and our work together is to help manage PMDD symptoms and the deeper relationship you have with yourself, by providing tools to cope with intense monthly mood shifts, reduce anxiety, and manage relationship strain.
Techniques like Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) helps to identify negative thought patterns, build emotional regulation, improve self-awareness, and reduce shame. I also centre all my work in developing self-compassion alongside self-awareness and exploring your personal boundaries within yourself and with others. The aim is to hold space and support the cognitive, emotional and physical symptoms of PMDD throughout your cycle not just in your leal phase.
Do you work with couples?
Currently I am only able to offer one one therapy sessions, however, I am aiming to start training in couples therapy in the upcoming years.
What if I need to cancel or skip a session?
If you are unable to attend a session, please let me know at least 48 hours before our session time.
Cancellation within 48-24 hours notice is charged at 50%
Cancellation with under 24 hours notice is charged at 100% of the session fee.
Will you give me advice?
No I will not give you direct life advice or telll you what to do. I will listen, and ask questions and support exploration of your thoughts and feelings around your past, current life circumstances and future choices. This may feel difficult to begin with and maybe even feel as if I am being passive. But, as your therapist, I am here to support you to open up and guide the process. Often simply talking about your problems will help you see them in a different light and bring up new and more authentic ways of feeling and engaging with your life choices you may not have considered before.
Is there a limit of sessions I can have?
Psychotherapy can be short or long term and the amount of sessions you have will be discussed in session anytime. I do advise that if you are thinking of ending therapy allowing 2 weeks notice so we can plan for a therapeutic and supportive ending.
What is an integrative Psychotherapist?
As an integrative psychotherapist I tailors our therapy to you as an individual. By blending techniques from multiple therapeutic modalities, such as DBT, person centred approach, IFS and CFT, to support you as a whole person. I prioritise a flexible, holistic approach, adapting our sessions and interventions to your specific emotional, cognitive, behavioural, and physical needs rather than using a one-size-fits-all model.
